30 July 2002 - 40 media professionals, artists, and journalists gathered at the Hyatt Saujana Hotel in Kuala Lumpur to launch an Images and Voices of Hope conversation in Malaysia. The subject of the dialogue was "Media As An Agent Of Hope, Inspiration And Enthusiasm," and it was co-hosted by the Malaysian Press Club and the Brahma Kumaris in Malaysia.

The conversation explored the role of media is generating a sense of hope in Malaysian society. Throughout the day people gathered in pairs and then at tables and ultimately began to speak about some of the themes and ideas most important to Malaysian society: Bringing the Village to the City, Community Cooperation, Helping consumers to know what to trust in the deluge of advertising, Creating a more credible media, and supporting an issues agenda to end racism and extremism, to encourage self sufficiency, to forge better relationships with neighboring countries, to encourage friendship, and to support the work of Nongovernmental Organizations.

A core group of people determined to continue to meet to elaborate the ideas developed in this meeting. For information about joining this conversation, email bkswum@tm.net.my
