The World Cafe
The
idea of "public space" used to refer to parks and commons like those at the
heart of most Spanish towns. But today, public space is increasingly a
reference to the common areas where societies go to hear, watch and read
about their world - the television, radio, and of course the omnipresent
internet.
In
this year's Summit we took up the subject of "media's creative impact on the
public space." Peter Senge framed the subject and asked Summit participants
to consider the question, "What type of subjects, if discussed in media,
would contribute to a healthy public space?"
Then
for four hours journalists and media professionals from all over the world
talked (and sketched) at small tables what they thought would like to see in
the public space - in the US, in Brazil, in South Africa, in Singapore, in
Canada, in Switzerland, in the UK...
